<< PARTICIPATE IN YEAS

We're excited for our 4th year of YEAS and will be announcing the date in late summer. Like years past, action project proposals will be due in February and the Summit will be in March/April. It's never too early to start working on your idea for a project. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Start working with a team of friends or classmates to identify a local issue that you want to tackle. Really dig in to understand the root cause of the issue, what policies and practices contribute to it, and what it would take to solve it.

  • Brainstorm creative solutions and select the action that you think would be most impactful and realistic to carry out.

  • Start to develop your action idea and reach out to us if you need ideas/support. We can connect you with other organizations/efforts that may help take your idea to the next level.

  • Once you're feeling good about your idea, start to put together your proposal - here are the proposal guidelines from the 2021 Summit that will give you a sense of what is required (a short video, a timeline, and a budget).

  • During the summit you'll have the chance to interface with a relevant community leader or professional who will give you feedback and practical tips for making your project come to life. During the awards ceremony, your project will be recognized and may be awarded implementation funds thanks to our generous sponsors.

YEAS is for high school, middle school, and upper elementary students in Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset counties who are thinking critically about environmental issues and solutions in their own communities. No experience required. Creative minds are welcome!

>> BECOME A STUDENT AMBASSADOR

YEAS has a bunch of moving parts and youth are involved at every level, including on our planning committee.

There are three main aspects of being a YEAS Ambassador:

  1. Bring your talents and interests to the planning and execution of the Summit.

  2. Gain leadership skills and experience through activities, projects, and workshops.

  3. Develop and implement your own action project, or support those of your peers.

Ambassadors are encouraged to attend monthly video meetings and are invited to special virtual and socially-distanced events throughout the year. When we are able to, we will resume the Ambassador Retreats!

* Presently the Student Ambassador opportunity is only open to rising 9, 10, 11, 12th graders in Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset counties.
