We're back in-person for 2022! The Summit is scheduled for Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 10AM-2:30PM at the Ward Museum in Salisbury. Wondering what to expect?

The Youth Environmental Action Summit brings together youth from across the Lower Shore of Maryland to explore ways they can take action on local environmental issues. The Summit combines informative conference-style sessions and workshops in a fun atmosphere for a powerful day-long educational experience leading to changes in the lives, schools, and communities of young people working towards a more sustainable future. YEAS is open to students in grades 3-12 from Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset counties. Check out the agenda!

<< CREATE & SUBMIT AN ACTION PROJECT PROPOSAL

Like years past, action project proposals are due prior to the Summit (on March 18th). It's never too early to start working on your idea for a project. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Start working with a team of friends or classmates to identify a local issue that you want to tackle. Really dig in to understand the root cause of the issue, what policies and practices contribute to it, and what it would take to solve it.

  • Brainstorm creative solutions and select the action that you think would be most impactful and realistic to carry out.

  • Start to develop your action idea and reach out to us if you need ideas/support. We can connect you with other organizations/efforts that may help take your idea to the next level.

  • Once you're feeling good about your idea, start to put together your proposal using these Guidelines. You'll need to create a short video or written narrative, a timeline, and a budget.

  • During the summit you'll have the chance to interface with a relevant community leader or professional who will give you feedback and practical tips for making your project come to life. During the awards ceremony, your project will be recognized and may be awarded implementation funds thanks to our generous sponsors.

** Reminder: It's OPTIONAL for students to submit action projects prior to the Summit. If you have questions don't hesitate to reach out to Elise (elise.trelegan@noaa.gov) or one of our Student Ambassadors.
